Ilkley Moor and the Wharfe

This differs from other walks from Ilkley on Walkingworld's website in that after a stroll along the northern edge of the moor, it drops to the valley and finishes along the Wharfe. This not only gives an advantage in poor weather but it also offers a walk of contrasts. While there are obviously good views over the valley from Ilkley Moor, the rugged outline of the moor can be appreciated from below. The walk is well-signposted with yellow arrows; the conventional stiles on the lower section are in good order, those on the moor are generally stone steps with a narrow slit.

Myself & my partner followed this walk on 24/7/11. Beautiful views really stand out. Do take note of step 11 - it did take us a bit of time to find the path - the ferns masked the first 100 yards, however when taking the path to the right of the cairns, just bear left as you move downhill and you will pick it up. If you reach a metal gate at the bottom you've not travelled far enough to the left. You want the stile/gap in the wall to the left of the gate, not the stile to the right of the gate. Enjoy !!
