The first half-mile of this circular walk is along the River Ness, popular with anglers (including herons). The 3.5 miles each way along the Caledonian Canal offers very pleasant views, changing with each bend in the canal. There are no roads, no traffic other than pleasure craft, fishing boats in transit coast to coast and the Loch Ness Cruise Steamer three times daily. The walking is good and of course level all the way, with no special footwear necessary. There is a tea shop and toilets at halfway.
