This circular walk has a little bit of road-work before rambling along miles of unspoilt Devon coastline. The area is so scenic that anyone who likes beauty or is a photographer should allow two to three hours' extra time for 'scenic stops'.

The small bay at Kingswear Castle is tranquil and invites a stopover for a rest and refreshments. You can easily lose an hour here before continuing along this beautiful coastline from the mouth of the River Dart, defended on the other side by Dartmouth Castle, along the rugged South Devon coastline.

The route takes the walker through the more modern and extensive World War Two complex at Froward Point. The route is well-marked and traverses many hills, each hill and turn presenting the walker with new vistas to delight in. The whole of this part of the coast may be considered scenic and there are many opportunities to stop for a rest or simply to 'chill out'. If you are a 'route-march' type of walker you could probably complete the walk in under four hours, but you would be sadly missing out on much of the beauty and relaxation that is priceless therapy. The walkers' signposts appear to be in Devonshire miles, which are quite a bit further than standard miles.

18/9/2020 Just completed this walk on a glorious, sunny day. Really enjoyed it and there are many spectacular viewpoints - would highly recommend. However we are pretty seasoned walkers and generally quite fit but we would designate this walk as quite strenuous - definitely worth it if you are reasonably fit. Took us 3.5 hours plus a break for lunch.

22/08/09 Brilliant walk but not for the fainthearted. Cove at Kingswear Castle not accessable but the Coastwatch lookout at Froward Point brilliant. Manned by volunteers they are only too happy to invite you in and explain their vital mission. Small visitor exhibition also worth a visit. See

A beautiful coastline walk, although there are some step climes, a good walk whatever the time of year, although the spring time is best with the wild flowers giving your photo some colour.
