From the Moorcock Inn at Langdale End we leave a country lane to head north, skirting Howden Hill. We cross pasture and coniferous woodland above the Derwent Valley to reach the trig point at Langdale Rigg End. After descending to the isolated valley of Harwood Dale we skirt the former Lownorth Park army camp on a public footpath. This land is now used by Scarborough Motorcycle Club for practice and competitive events. Where Harwood Dale Beck and the River Derwent join, we go south through the mature woodland of Langdale.
