This popular return walk starts by the ferry ramp on the delightful Largs seafront, where you can see the regular ferries to the Great Cumbrae Island operating. (Photo on the right). Enjoy the fresh sea breeze as you walk along the prom and Cairnies Quay before striking inland through Douglas Park and partway up Rigging Hill to the viewpoint. Choose a fine day so you can sit for a while at the viewpoint indicator and enjoy the magnificent scene across the town and sea and the island. There are bench seats scattered along the walk and the path and gates are in excellent order and the route includes a long flight of rustic steps. Despite the climb the walk is designated as easy. You can return via the same route or once out of Douglas Park make your own way through the town back to the car park.

The walk is suitable for children, teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between and also excellent for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies due to the steps. Suitable footwear will be anything flat soled and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. There are refreshments, toilets and a whole range of shops and eating places in Largs. There are several restaurants close to the ferry ramp, including a Wetherspoons so you won't need to book in advance to get a good meal and a drink; an excellent finish to a good walk.
