You can view Caldera Bandama from the top of the nearby pico, from the bottom of the crater or from the path round the rim. You are unlikely to have time to do all three on a trip from a cruise ship. The pico has superb views but is a favourite with the tour buses, one arriving to disgorge its load of passengers every few minutes, so you are unlikely to be able to admire the vistas in peace. The path down into the caldera, where there is a deserted farm, is interesting but it is a hard slog back the same way. The walk round the rim has excellent views and an opportunity to admire it from every angle, so is the best of the three. The route described suggests you catch a town bus to the 'country' bus station, as it is quite a walk through the town or along the front and not that interesting, but you could, of course, walk if you wish.

An enjoyable walk with splendid views. Public transport works well. Potential walkers might want to note that the noticeboard at the Mirador near the bus stop rates this walk as "Risk - average to high". Much of the walk is on a narrow path with a steep drop on one or both sides. A short stretch leads across a narrow ridge of volcanic ash. Those with flexible joints and immunity from vertigo will have no problems: others might choose to turn back as we did.
