Llanerchi Car Park - Garreg Ddu Reservoir - Penybont - Elan Valley Trail - Llanerchi Car Park

The Elan Valley is Wales' own Lake District. The area was flooded to provide water for Birmingham's growing population, but the area now gives pleasure to thousands who come to enjoy the peace and the red kites. On this walk we follow round the edge of Garreg Ddu Reservoir to wander through a variety of habitats. The first part of the walk follows tracks through mature woodland before a wander across open moorland. The return route is an easy walk along the Elan Valley Trail. There are usually red kites to be seen and look out for bogland plants on the moorland stretch. The wood supports a variety of woodland birds.
