From the Plaza Mayor we begin by meandering our way through the pretty streets of Lliber before we begin a steady footpath ascent up the Serra del Castell de la Solano. The panoramas improve the higher up we go. After about 1.5 to two hours we are at the top and can opt to follow the rocky footpath right up to the so-called Castell d'Aixa at about 607m above sea level. There is little evidence of the castle but the panoramas will stun you – and you might have some goats for company! From here we have a steep descent, at first by rocky footpath through pinewoods and later on a tarmac lane from the Urbanisation Solano. Now it is a simple wander down the lane to the outskirts of Xaló. Here we cross the River Xaló and take the dirt road eastwards back to Lliber.
