This is one of the most beautiful lakes in Snowdonia and is an excellent place to enjoy easy walking in magnificent scenery. There is also a fine little café where, on a sunny day, you can sit on the grassy slope next to the lake.

Llyn Crafnant nestles in a tranquil Welsh valley high in the Snowdonia National Park. The lake is three-quarters of a mile long and covers 63 acres. Many people regard the lake as one of the most beautiful spots in North Wales. Crafnant takes its name from 'craf', an old Welsh word for garlic and 'nant', a stream. Even today the valley of Afon Crafnant smells of wild garlic when it flowers. The lake is a popular fishing spot and is well-stocked with rainbow trout up to 3lb, supplementing the wild brown trout. It can be fished from all banks or via the privacy of a boat which you can hire from the café.

This is an absolutely wonderful area to walk and many thanks to Dennis for introducing us to such a beautiful gem of a place to walk. Between way points four and five there are paths which can take you up the slopes to and beyond some majestic looking crags with far reaching vistas of Snowdonia. Access is easy and this is not hard core hiking country, hence it is accessible to all. It is a perfect location for a picnic or some after dark star gazing. The cafe opens at Easter. Many Thanks to Dennis for posting this magical wander. Best Andy & Wendy McTaggart

Lovely walk completed today. Gentle undulations and good underfoot. A small amount of flooding on the forest path, quite shallow so easily navigable. Will try this one again in warmer weather. Great views even on a damp January afternoon. The cafe was closed, not sure of opening dates and times. Also the Toilets at the picnic area down the hill from waypoint 1 were closed.
