Most of the walk is in mature pine forest; where felling has been carried out there are very good views into the northern corries of the Cairngorms. Beginning at the car park at Loch Morlich, the walk follows broad forestry trails all the way, so no special footwear is required. At the Sluggan a one-mile diversion can be made to a TV mast; the view is hardly worth it... the views on the return journey are spectacular. Near the end of the walk there are cafes, toilets, shop, Visitor Centre and Reindeer Centre; and in good weather the Loch Morlich beach is very popular.
