This is a long, high, moorland route from the Spittal of Glen Muick and then across the Capel Mounth to Glen Doll.

The Capel Mounth path starts with a steep climb out of Glen Muick to reach the grass-covered plateau and provides magnificent views along Loch Muick to the Munros Broad Cairn and Cairn Bannoch at the far end. The path across the plateau is relatively flat but ends with a steep descent into upper Glen Clova. The final 1.5km is a stroll beside the South Esk to the picnic area and car park.

For an extended version, this walk can be combined with Walk 3855, Crathie - Spittal of Glen Muick. This gives a 16.5 mile crossing of the Mounth from Deeside to Glen Doll.
