The walk can be done either way, of course... you might be staying in Lochinver and walking to have a day at the beach, or staying at the Achmelvich caravan and camping sites and walking over to enjoy the delights of Lochinver (shops, pub etc). You follow a narrow path most of the way and walk on a tarmac road for 1km. The views of mountain, loch and sea are superb: Quinag, Canisp, Suilven, Coul Mor and Coul Beg and North Uist, Harris and Lewis in the Hebrides, particularly if you leave the path near Waymark 06 (the highest point on the path) and go 100m to the cairn on your left (walking from Lochinver). The beach at Achmelvich is very sheltered, with lots of room and clean sand.

It is a very enjoyable family walk (with dog). Boots are best. There are refreshments etc in Lochinver.
