This delightful walk starts close to the splendid lychgate and follows the valley eastwards along a farm track from Long Compton, before turning south on field-paths and climbing up towards Great Rollright, affording splendid views over the valley. Walk a short distance on the road before turning north across field-paths, descending to Gottenham and a climb again before the final descent to Whichford and its excellent pub, The Norman Knight. The return to Long Compton is via Whichford Wood, a delight in the bluebell season. In Long Compton it is worth a stop to look at the church and lychgate.

Lovely walk but is the distance 7.4 rather than 4.7 miles. It is certainly way over 5 miles! David C
