Setting off from the car park, we first go to the incredibly well-thought-out exhibition at the Pedro Pidal Visitors' Centre. Here we can learn a great deal about all aspects of this wonderful natural park. Our hike will take us next to the well-preserved remains of the manganese mines at Buferrera, which only stopped production in the 90s. Our hike now takes us through splendid mountain scenery as we circle the two lakes Ercina and Enol, passing through beech-woods and summer cattle pastures. We shall follow the well-signed (yellow and white) PR-PNPE-2 which, of the several hikes available in the lake area, is by far the best for a complete overview.

Completed walk in September 2013. If you are lucky enough to get a warm, sunny day this is as good a walk as you will find anywhere. There is spectacular mountain scenery, interesting farm buildings, two beautiful lakes and what are probably the prettiest cows in the world. Allow a full half day as you will stop often - it is stunning!
