From the pretty village of Lower Heyford, this walk is predominantly in and around rich, beautiful farmland. The occasional homestead stands isolated in acres of green and pleasant land. Spinneys and woods are also a regular occurrence along the way, with pockets of forestation often in view. Kirtlington Village is a gem, with lovely stone dwellings interestingly placed without the uniform sameness that dominate modern housing estates. The superb track of Crowcastle Lane leaves the village and continues high above the Oxford Canal, beyond which lies miles of glorious rolling landscape, before finally leading back to Lower Heyford on field-paths. Stroll through the picturesque village, past old and lovely stone cottages with thatch or slate roofs and interesting names. The small Market Square is a picture, a large oak standing proud, with a circular seat placed around its trunk beneath its sheltering boughs and handsome dwellings facing onto it from three sides.

Mostly a good walk but the quiet country road is now a busy main road so the mile or so along it into Kirtlington is not pleasant.
