The walk falls naturally into three parts. First a delightful ramble from Manaccan following the Gillan Creek past St Anthony in Meaneage along tracks, lanes and footpaths. This part culminates in a visit to Dennis Head, offering outstanding views over the entrance to the Helford River and way over towards Pendennis and entrance to the Carrick Roads and Falmouth.

The second part takes us along the spectacular southern bank of the Helford River, walking through wonderful old deciduous woods and passing two lovely little beaches, only accessible by boat; great spots for a swim and a picnic.

The final part takes us south up from charming Helford with its beautifully located pub, following the course of a rapidly flowing stream. We are mostly in damp cool woods as we gently climb a muddy way for about a kilometre before emerging into open country to cross a minor road and follow the footpath back into Manaccan.

The October 2023 storm has brought down a number of large trees at the beginning and in the final part of this walk, some of them across the footpaths (including the Coastal Path) this route takes. They are all negotiable with care and it is to be hoped that they will be cleared before long.

Check walked Boxing Day 2021. No navigational changes and the walk, for me, is one the best short walks in Cornwall. HOWEVER! Seriously muddy in places in winter! Top tip - the large car park at Helford is free between 1 Nov and 31 Mar and you could start the walk from there at way mark 10.

Completed this walk with friends on Oct 13th 2021. Fabulous walk. Well directed. Took us quite a bit longer than the time suggested with all the photo stops. Had a drink in The Shipwright's Arms in Helford. Great walk to do when the leaves are dropping to allow the autumn sunlight through.
