Here are wonderfully picturesque scenes in downland and through large pockets of woodland. Though fairly lengthy it should pose no problems to the reasonably fit walker, with only a few steep climbs. From Martin Downe car park the route takes bridleways, paths and tracks in a superb area where there is much to interest the historian, with many ancient sites along the way. There are splendid views and breathtaking woodland scenes, especially in April and May when spring flowers spread carpets of vivid hues and cast their heady scents into the air. Although the walk starts and finishes in Hampshire, most of its length runs through parts of Wiltshire and Dorset.

Even on a damp and misty November day this was a splendid walk. It is on my list of walks to do again.

We shortened this walk due to aged dog by turning left just before the end of the first woods and the fist road then following yellow marks until the road to Woodyates where we picked up the walk again. Lovely.
