Middleton - Threestoneburn - Hart Hope Burn - Common Burn - Wooler: Part 1

This is the first part of a hill scramble combining footpaths and tracks through some of the most remote countryside in England. The scenery is breathtaking, the walking superb and the sense of peace and tranquillity is immense. It begins with a gradual climb from Middleton and becomes more intense from Waymark 3 onwards. There are some fairly strenuous climbs, most notably at Hawsen Burn, Great Moor and Yeavering Bell; in places, footpaths are indistinct, particularly near Broadstruther. In the main however, this is a well-signposted route, though it is a walk more suited to the experienced walker.

As stated, the countryside is very remote and it is likely you will meet no-one else here during the day.

The climate in the Cheviots is unpredictable even in high summer, so this is best tackled between spring and autumn.
