Moel y Golfa is part of the Breidden Hills but is not directly connected by a right of way to the others. Consequently the walk starts from the village of Middletown and involves as steep a climb as you would care to find, straight up to the summit. This climb, plus a small rock outcrop which is a scramble, if an easy one, gives the walk a higher rating of difficulty than most short walks. The summit ridge is very open with fine views, but the rest of the walk is in mature woodland, which of course has its own attractions.
