This is a relatively short yet demanding walk, in this delightful area of Staffordshire. Much of the route is on high ground with minor elevation changes once you have reached the higher level. There is a steep climb from Mill Dale and a steeper descent on the return.
Most paths on this route are well-walked and are easy to find. When walked, all stiles were present and in good order, some having been replaced with the gated stiles popular with Staffordshire Moorlands Council.
The pub used on this walk is the The Olde Royal Oak in Wetton. This is a walker-friendly pub, though they appreciate muddy boots being removed or covered. There are racks in the entrance porch for storage. When walked, some covers were being provided by the pub. They offer a good-value menu with reasonable choice, also offering a good choice of beers on hand-pumps; the guest beers change quite frequently. There is also a camping field available behind the pub, alongside the church.
