The outward route starts from 'Old' Minnigaff and comprises a tree-lined, part-sunken path over the golf course, followed by the road out of 'New' Minnigaff, then a lane above the small settlement of Blackcraig onto the wooded slopes of Larg Hill and a visit to the two Bruntis Lochs, finishing with a descent to Kirroughtree Visitor Centre for halfway refreshments etc.

Return is via a lovely woodland path to bypass Stronord, then by way of a high drive across parkland to a well-known hotel and leisure complex. Finally, the route passes through more woodland back to Old Minnigaff and an optional diversion to view the suspension footbridge spanning the River Cree. There are picnic tables at Bruntis Loch, the visitor centre and adjacent to the finish.
