The historic border town of Monmouth was controlled by a Roman garrison from the 1st Century to around 400AD. The Normans left their mark (St Thomas' Church) as well as St Mary's Church and of course, Monnow Bridge. This easy walk explores much of the town before visiting a nature reserve and crossing over the new modern bridge which gives a very good view of the old Monnow Bridge.
