From the open parking area, we begin with a short descent to the lower information area, from which we can take the optional walk up to the beautifully situated Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de La Antigua either now or the end of the walk. From here we simply follow the well-marked path up the canyon, passing the spectacular Torres del Estena with the river cascading below us. Later we cross the river on a wooden bridge and have a slightly more tricky stage over a rocky footpath before our way becomes easier again on the opposite side. All too soon we reach the barrier that marks the end of our route – although you can continue a little if you are feeling naughty! Now we have the delight of the opposite perspective on our way back and if we did not climb to the hermitage, this is the time to do it. The hermitage (738m) mirrors the wonderful church in Navas and the views from the two miradors (viewpoints) are just stunning. It is certainly worth the pain.
