Neatishead is a small village about four miles south-west of Stalham, just off the A1151. It is surrounded by classic Broadland countryside, including Barton Broad and Alderfen Nature Reserve. Starting in the centre of Neatishead Village, the route follows country lanes to Butcher's Common to the south and then zigzags towards Alderfen Broad.

Alderfen Broad is a National Nature Reserve and has a couple of nature trails through the woodlands and down to the water's edge. The walk duration guide for this walk doesn't include a long stay at the nature reserve, so please allow another hour for a good look around this area.

The route back from Alderfen Broad follows quiet country lanes and public footpaths to reach one of the highest points along the walk, allowing for some distant views to the west and south.

We completed this walk on 31 May 2021. A nice easy walk on a warm day, all instructions still hold. The section through Alderfen Broad was very boggy in places, I would suggest it would be impassable in the middle of winter. The information board as you exit the broad carries a warning that the area is hazardous in the wet season.
