The three peaks of Pen Y Fan, Corn Du and Cribyn dominate this beautiful area of the Brecon Beacons National Park. This walk approaches them from a southerly direction starting close to the Neuadd Reservoirs. After a long edge walk of spectacular proportions, the summit of Corn Du is reached with extensive views in all directions. It is but a short distance now up onto the summit of Pen Y Fan. Here the views open up further, looking far across the National Park and down onto Brecon and the reservoirs. On the return there is the opportunity to divert to the summit of Cribyn.

Undertook this walk on Tuesday 7 June 2022. Directions were excellent and navigated accurately even when visibility was down to only 20meters. Moving time 3hr 59m. Overall time including stops for refreshments etc was 5hr19m. Tracked using Outdoor Active. Distance was recorded as 7.8m, but recorded 633m of ascent (which I think is inaccurate). This is an outstanding walk and would have brilliant views on a clear day!

Lovely route (highly recommend) and blessed with weather today. Also quiet for the majority of it (apart from the obvious tourist peak at pyf). Sept20 status. Footpath closed at point 3 due to Neuadd lower reservoir works. Diversion in place but easy to get back on the path up to point 4. And going up to point 4 is a lot easier now they have added man made rock gardens/tracks. Total distance and ascent including cribyn (mentioned as an optional part of this route) is 8.65 miles and 2208 ft ascent (according to Strava app). 3h23 moving time and 4h52 total time inc. long tea/cake stop with epic views (and photos the whole way round).

This is a great walk which took us just on 5 hours with lunch stop and some photo moments; brilliant ridge walk and fabulous views with the real hard work completed in the first hour ascending the ridge above the reservoir. This part of the path does become vague towards the end of the woodland referred to in WM 3 but we just took the shortest route straight up the slope! A couple of points; the grid reference at WM 1 is for the wrong car park ... correct reference is SO0377616962. Secondly, the two references to Corn Du in WM 9 should be referring to Cribyn (which is worth climbing and does then complete the Brecons Horseshoe!). Slightly surprised that the height gain is given as only 675 metres ...we suspect it may be somewhat more. Nevertheless, a really enjoyable walk .. thank you Phil and Sue!
