There is usually adequate parking opposite the cottages in the village. The walk passes through a variety of countryside including sheep grazing, river valley and open moorland. None of the climbing is arduous, although the heather tramping section can be hard going.
The tales of the Borestane and history of the 'Font Stone' are interesting. At nesting times the islands in the North Esk Reservoir are a cacophony of sound and notices and two hides aid the recognition of the different species.
The walk can take considerably longer than indicated if the stops are as frequent as they can be.
