The walk starts with an easy three-mile stroll along the northern part of Arran's coastal way, with sightings of oystercatchers and cormorants. After that, the walk turns off the coastal path to access open moorland, where there is no obvious path but great views of mountains and sea.

There is a good chance of seeing herds of red deer on the moor — much more chance than there is of seeing people! After a moderately steep climb, the route continues over the moor to descend quite steeply to the edge of a pine forest. From here the riding stables at Sannox come into view and this is the return route.
