Glen Tilt is part of the Atholl Estates. The walk takes you from the car park near Old Bridge of Tilt up the west side of the glen to Gow's Bridge and back down the east side. En route you will sample the delights of this fine Perthshire glen, which has a little of everything to offer, from woodland and river to waterfalls and pasture, all nestling below the hills in beautiful Scottish scenery. The walk has the added advantage of been easily shortened to six miles for those with less time or energy, by crossing Gilbert's Bridge and joining the return route. Also the route is marked with posts with yellow arrows throughout; they may become a little sparse at times nearing the halfway point and in the lower part of the return, but no difficulty in route-finding should be experienced.

We walked this route again today without going astray! At waymark 6 we followed the route of the walkers in the photo. We wondered if the instruction should be to 'ignore tracks branching to the left' - which is what we did - following the Athol Estates signs for Gilberts bridge! The track through the shooting range has been re-surfaced with fairly large stones - excellent for vehicles but slightly uncomfortable for walking! Still a most enjoyable and popular walk - judging from the number of people we met! It took us about 5 hours - not counting stops.

I reached this walk by train to Blair Athol from Stonehaven - saved much driving! Although up and down the same glen the outward and inward tracks are so different that there is no sense of repetition. Take care to strike the right path at the end of the shooting range - I went off course slighly here. The going is mostly good and I accomplished the trip with plenty time in hand, so could enjoy a cuppa in the hotel before my train home!
