Hartshill Hayes Country Park is made up of two ancient hilly woodlands, both of which have glorious displays of bluebells in the springtime. The park is worth visiting all year round with its hillside location offering spectacular panoramic views over four counties on a clear day. The site also has a great adventure play area for kids and refreshments kiosk and toilets.
Car parking is £3 all day, the fee going towards the park upkeep.
This walk starts at the car park. From there we take the left of the two woods – Oldbury Camp – the bluebells in season really do carpet the woodland. From there we continue through farmland with some fantastic views before heading to the local golf course via more woodlands – Purley Park.
After the golf course the route leads us through yet another woodland – Upper Coal Spinney, then around the Quarry with a fascinating view of the remnants of mans' industry. A short spell of road walking leads us back into the park to return to the car park.
