The 'Overton Yew Trees' walk begins by dropping down to the River Dee, which it follows through a wood before climbing again. The views from the top are attractive if not spectacular. A further riverside walk is followed by a second climb to the village. Like all walks of this kind, it can be muddy and trainers might not be suitable.

Thanks for your comments, Robert. I have amended the distance and made a few other small changes. As it happens, I already have plans to revise this walk, which was the first that I ever did for Walking World, in the days before digital cameras when we had to post photographic prints to be scanned! The wooded sections of this walk are the highlights. The large field at the start and middle is rather uninteresting and there are just a few views of the Dee (at this time of year). Nevertheless it was an enjoyable walk that could be extended by exploring Knolton Wood beyond WM8. At WM9 the route now goes directly uphill towards a marker post just to the left of a solitary tall pine tree. The very new wire fence mentioned in the original note is no longer at all new. The section after WM10 is in parts wet and crosses two more stiles before reaching the driveway. You should also be aware that a number of fallen trees cause you to duck under them. The restricted height is as low as 1 metre in one place.

I was surprised when I completed this walk in less than 1.5 hours as the description says 6.2 miles 2hrs 40 mins. I have re-measured the route on Google Earth and it is actually about 3.2 miles rather than 6.2 miles. This clearly needs updating.

Beautiful Walk. Directions a bit confusing after going up the embankment opposite the Boat Inn at Erbistock and we lost our way on the last section before coming up from the river to the main road - we carried on and came out lower down.
