There are many areas of woodland in the districts of Penallt and Trelleck. Although these are forestry woodlands they are not blocks of dark green evergreens, but a mix of evergreens, larch and deciduous trees including beech, oak and many other, smaller trees. Crossbills can be found in all these woodlands, but as they move around their whereabouts are a matter of luck.
