This linear walk starts from Pen-y-Pass and follows the Pyg Track to the summit of Snowdon and the track by the railway line down to Llanberis.

Start behind the National Park buildings to the upper car park (on the right). The Pyg Track commences from a narrow gap in a low wall and is a well-constructed path. After crossing a double stile, the track traverses inside the hollow below Snowdon and reaches the zigzags below the summit ridge.

From here the railway line is followed for the short distance to the summit.

The return begins by returning to the top of the Pyg Track and passing it to continue on the very wide track down to a lane just above Llanberis. The village is reached very shortly after. You can catch a bus back to the start point.

What can I say! A truly rewarding mountain challenge of good distance with great views and a good challenge. We did this in about 6 hours and our GPS plotted it at 8.8 miles (not the 9.94 miles stated). Care does need to be taken on the zig-zags and you will have to use your hands to scramble up the rocks and should be prepared with good boots and a head for heights. I wouldn't recommended it for chidren that are not experienced or closely monitored. Recommend that you take weatherproof clothing, a hot drink, whistle, map, compass and torch and adequate footwear and supplies as this is a mountain challenge and the weather can change in seconds as it did when we did this in August 2006.
Truly rewarding once you have done it. 9/10. Buses run from Llanberis to Pen-y-Pass (aug 2006 timetable) at 19 minutes pass the hour and cost £2.00 single or £3.50 return for adults.
