Dog Friendly Pub walk; this 'lollipop' shaped walk makes use of the Trans Pennine Trail along the St. Helens Canal, with a short urban circular section before your return. This all seasons walk is best on a warm sunny day and all the paths are well used and excellent. The popular pub is at the start and finish, so plan your starting time to make it a good place for a lunchtime drink and snack after your walk. The scenery along the canal is very rural and attractive. There are no stiles, snickets, kissing gates or steps, just pedestrian gates at level crossings. The start of the walk is at the end of the navigable part of the canal and along it moored boats can be seen. Dogs are allowed in the extensive pub gardens, and along the grassy bank of the Mersey where they also have picnic tables. Both are friendly environments for you and your four-legged friend to feel relaxed, safe, and happy. The walk includes instructions for canal and sea boat users, and if you've noticed the sewage works on the map don't worry; you won't see them or smell them - they are well hidden.

This walk is suitable for children, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Also good for dogs, and excellent for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled; and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. On your route there are occasional bench seats, and half way round there are pubs with toilets and two chippy and Chinese take-aways.
