Piddington – Hearnton Wood – Slough Bottom Farm - Waterend – Beacon's Bottom – Piddington

This walk has a number of steep ascents and descents as it winds its way round the countryside between Piddington and Bledlow Ridge. Start from Ham Farm, where at lambing time one can visit a viewing centre to watch the lambs being born (contact 01494-526065).

The walk climbs above Piddington and then continues through Hearnton Wood. There are then a number of hills past typical Chiltern farms, with a final steep descent to Beacon's Bottom. The last part of the walk is through the attractive Bottom Wood Nature Reserve.

A good workout for lungs and legs with some classic Chilterns vistas as your reward. With the exception of WM2, none of the stiles have been replaced with gates and the directions remain highly accurate. Ground conditions were generally fine but expect.a churned-up bridleway from WM27-28, and much of the long section through the Bottom Wood Nature Reserve will also be muddy and rutted in the wetter seasons. I measured this at almost exactly 7 miles and completed it in 2hrs 10; as always with a hilly walk, the duration will depend on your fitness and the degree of vigour with which you approach it.

Enjoyable 'undulating' walk in a less familiar part of the Chilterns. Duration is more likely 4 rather than 3 hours. Walk can be reached by bus (WM1) and/or train (WM17) as well as car.
