Piddlehinton - Well Bottom Down - Buck Hill - Kingrove Bottom - Piddletrenthide - Piddlehinton

Large expanses of open downland, with magnificent views, flank the lush Piddle Valley, which carries the river on its way to Puddletown and Tolpuddle and thence to Wareham. Numerous small settlements nestle in the valley and this walk starts at Piddlehinton, near The Thimble Inn, a thatched pub by the riverside. An easy ascent on good paths soon reveals the extensive views. Deer and other wildlife can be seen and buzzards soar overhead. Towards the highest part of the walk, the path passes through some deciduous woodland for about 600 yards. The foliage underfoot on this stretch can be quite dense and there may be tall nettles, so small children would need to be carried and shorts would be unsuitable. From the woodland, the walk descends very gently, again on good paths, to the valley bottom outside Piddletrenthide and the path turns to run parallel to the river back to Piddlehinton.
