This walk starts by the bay in Puerto de Sóller – a dramatic semicircle of blue water. This can be accessed from Sóller using the vintage tramway; the cars were imported from San Francisco at the turn of the last century. We then pick up the GR221, which is the long-distance footpath running the length of Mallorca's northern mountain chain and follow it around the outskirts of Sóller.

Now we follow the GR221 up into the orange and olive groves, with excellent views all around the Sóller Valley, to the little settlement of Binibassi, where we leave it to continue onwards to the pretty village of Fornalutx. A drink, or lunch in the square will refresh you ready for the return via the historic Biniarix and more of Sóller.

The return from Sóller is via a newly-opened stretch of the GR221, a slightly higher-level route than that used on the way out. When you return to Puerto de Sóller, there's a very wide selection of cafes and restaurants for post-walk refreshment.

The best map to use for this walk is the 'Tour & Trail' Mallorca North and Mountains map (ISBN 978-1899554935).
