This outstanding walk starts with a ramble through Richmond's old racecourse on Low Moor just to the north of the old town to view the derelict Victorian Grandstand.

From the racecourse an absolutely delightful walk follows through a gem of a hidden valley before the route, having crossed the fledgling Aske Beck, ascends steeply onto Aske Moor where there are great panoramic views looking north-west to the southern slopes of the County of Durham.

The route then descends through Gilling Wood to visit the Aske Hall Estate, passing on the way the imposing Stable Block and then the main Hall. The final section of the walk passes through Richmond Golf Course to return to the car park on the old racecourse.

Just finished this walk and can confirm that it is a lovely walk - we really enjoyed it. I think the timing is off though as we completed it in 3 hours, 20 minutes which included two, 10 minute breaks. We didn't rush either and also paused several times to read the directions - which were excellent, by the way.

This is a really nice walk. We did it on 18 March 2023 and some of the going was muddy, especially between way-marks 3 and 7. The directions are spot on and there is a nice mix of moorland and woodland. Between way-marks 8 and 9 there is a bench with a poignant memorial. At Aske Hall there is a coffee shop that also makes its own chocolates which is a nice spot to stop before the final bit of the walk. Would thoroughly recommend the walk.

The start point (dirt) car park now has a housing estate opposite so the reservoir is not obvious. There is a stone in the car park with a brass plaque that states Jubilee Car Park.

This was my first Walkingworld walk and it was a cracker. Excellent notes and map, never got lost once. I live locally and was amazed that I had never seen half of the landscape of the walk. Have a break in front of Aske Hall.
