Cricket has been played on Rickling Green for over 150 years. The oldest surviving record is a scorecard of a rather one-sided match between Rickling Green and Orleans Club in 1882, although the club dates back to at least the 1860s. An annual summer highlight is the one day Pro-Am Six-a-Side competition on the Green, which features England test players and is hosted by the Rickling Ramblers Cricket Club (visit: http://ricklingramblerscricketday.co.uk/).

The Church of All Saints in Rickling is over 800 years old, although the name of Richelinga is listed in the Domesday Book of 1086. It is said to mean either Ricela or Ricola's people, most likely a reference to Ricola who was Queen of Essex in the 6th Century.

The route takes in a section of the Harcamlow Way between Rickling Green and Rickling, which offers views of the woods and rolling farmland of Essex. The full route is a figure-of-eight-shaped walk of about 225 kilometres that can be walked in stages.

A lovely walk (16/7/2017) almost entirely on country paths and bridleways. But note there is no bridleway sign or any other marking at Waymark 11, and if you are not careful you will miss the insignificant right turn, and end up at the M11!
