The walk quickly gains wide open country on leaving Riseley and excellent paths take us to the corner of Penn Wood before joining the long-distance trail. It would be hard to miss the impressive motte and bailey, but the church is also worth a visit. Skirting the earthworks, the route again crosses open farmland, before approaching Riseley from behind the church.

Nice walk all be it very flat all the way round . Foootpaths generally all good apart from point 14 heading towards Crowfield Farm where you have to tramp over ploughed land with no footpath sign or indeed any footpath in sight! All 3 are nice villages but it does look as if the Chequers in Yeldon has permanently closed now
