The walk starts just north of Burriana Beach and the Parador in Nerja (a truly beautiful seaside resort fifty miles east of Málaga City) and follows the Chillar riverbed upstream, in water up to knee height at times, up several small, surmountable waterfalls. The river twists through several gorges towering above you as you ascend, with some interesting stalactites and stalagmites near the water pools at the summit. The kids will thoroughly enjoy the journey and swimming in the waterfall-fed pools at the summit.

We only did part of this walk but it is a popular walk by casual day walkers and in March this year the Rios are well down and we walked both the Chillar and Higueron without getting our feet wet. With the more frequent dry summers, the weather warnings are probably not as relevant as when this was written
