The walk is entirely to the north of Ruthin. Once the town has been left, by a path along the sports fields, there is one short climb to a level walk through pastures. A descent follows to a limestone gorge through which runs Lady Bagot's Drive and this is followed to the village of Rhewl with The Drovers' Arms. A short walk along lanes brings you to the River Clwyd which is followed all the way back to Ruthin. There are fine views of the Clwydian Range throughout the walk.
