From the little café near the church in the hamlet of San Lorenzo, we begin by heading eastwards to reach the classic fortified pueblo of Balafia and the freshwater spring Fuente de Balafia. From here we shall ramble following a circular route to the south of San Lorenzo, passing through unspoilt countryside ablaze with wildflowers in spring and early summer. We return to San Lorenzo along a wide dirt road that brings us to the lovely picnic and barbeque site just outside the hamlet.

Walk checked by Walkingworld member Gerrard Sweeney in May 2021. All good and no changes. Thanks Gerrard. Jim Arymar.

Check walked this one in January 2019. I have had to alter the route a little at way mark 4 due to closures. The text has been sharpened and updated, as has the map. This remains a varied and fascinating walk and very highly recommended. Jim Arymar

At the left turn for point 2, if you look left you see a cobbled track between two high stone walls a little way off. This clue would have made it easier to realise which left turn was meant. Later on we failed to find point 8 and got to the main road too far north. This did not spoil the walk.
