From the tiny hamlet of San Mateu we begin rambling through the vine fields of the Plana d'Alberca before ascending through pine forests and heading towards the magnificent cliff coastline in the region of Cap de Rubio. Following a narrow, rocky footpath we descend through pine forests before scrambling up a short distance to reach the mysterious Torres d'en Lluc (see additional notes for information). After our exploration and enjoyment of the truly magnificent coastal scenery, we retrace our footsteps briefly before beginning a steep climb through pinewoods and a descent back to the much easier Plana d'Alberca. Now we have an easy ramble through the timeless countryside, in spring full of colour and birdsong, as we wend our way back to the start at San Mateu. The hamlet has two bar-restaurants to enjoy.

I have received a report that many pine trees have fallen along the route following severe winter storms 2019/20. The route is still possible but you should be prepared for some scrambling. Jim Arymar
