Saxmundham is a great place from which to begin and to end, with a variety of watering houses and food shops. Indeed, we pass between two major supermarkets as we leave the town and head out to farmland. The first couple of miles need some care with navigation though, in reality, waymarks appear as required. These early fields may be sticky immediately after wet weather, but do seem to drain and dry quite quickly. Only one patch, just after Waymark 16, is potentially boggy and the worst can be turned here.

The return from Gromford takes in a quiet lane, a short woodland section and passes an extensive piggery before making acquaintance with cattle and sheep on the leg back into Saxmundham.
