Saxmundham is left on a well-used footpath close to the A12, which is crossed at Kelsale. The route then heads out into mainly arable farmland on wide grass margins, good tracks and a little tarmac. The charming village of Yoxford offers cafes and pubs and an award-winning hotel, before the return leg across gently undulating countryside.

The route touches on two other Walkingworld routes, both by the same author. The start is shared with Walk 6788 and the approach to Yoxford reverses the first few legs of Walk 5939.
