Leaving Saxmundham, the route crosses the busy A12 and heads out across rolling farmland towards the small village of Rendham, where pub food is available. The church is unusual in that a brass survives, set into the nave floor. The whole setting is delightful and a good place to plan a pause. A second pub, at Sweffling, is only open evenings, though the attraction of real ale is present. Beside the pub is Alde Garden, where accommodation may be had in a Tipi, Yurt or Gypsy Caravan.

A third hostelry, the Crown at Great Glemham has a notice suggesting refurbishment, but at the time of writing it is firmly closed to trade. Take a moment though, to walk the few steps up towards the church, where the village library is housed, uniquely, in a red phone box, rescued from BT progress. Finally we return to farmland and our starting point.
