Just to the west of the village of Penpont, near Thornhill, is a 'hidden' area of typical sheep country consisting of rolling green hills, dominated by Cairnkinna at 1,815ft or 552 metres, of moorland and of woods, with little farms dotted about, accessed from little lanes. Here is the beautiful valley of the Scaur Water and here is your ideal walk in this most tranquil of settings.

This is a lovely walk in a quiet valley. But... the height gain isn't 70 metres, it is (at least) 170 metres.
