This walk starts from a town upon a river and visits a village on a Roman road. Shipston is a large historical Cotswold town on the River Stour and has much to interest the visitor. There is parking by the Mill House Hotel, beside the River Stour and opposite in the council car park, or on a service road just before the start of the walk.

The route leaves the town on a fine bridleway, which soon affords good views over splendid countryside. Field- and meadow-paths ensue to reach Todenham Manor, with the spire of the village church peeping from behind. The route veers away in the opposite direction from here in pleasant pastures, to continue on a high ridge overlooking superb distant views, descending to cross the Knee Brook.

The speed and noise of traffic on the Fosse Way comes as something of a shock, but once across it, there follows the lovely little village of Stretton-on-Fosse with its quaint old buildings, a peaceful setting despite its location. The departure is via wonderful meadows to reach the Fosse Way again. Then we go along to a track and onto field-paths that lead past idyllic cottages and a farm of the same name, with colourful blooms tumbling over tubs and pots.

The rest of the way back to Shipston is but a short distance in this most appealing and attractive area.
