Shotley Gate - River Stour - Erwarton - Shotley - River Orwell

Start and end at Shotley Gate. Go west along the north bank of the River Stour to the little hamlet of Erwarton. Here strike inland to visit the church, then cross the peninsula, first to Shotley, then to the River Orwell, where you turn east to return to your starting point where the two estuaries meet.

It's a fun walk on well managed footpaths and quiet lanes. However the description suggests this circular route is 5 miles long, my Garmin GPS measured 6.5 miles.

Between points 7 and 8 where you take the footpath across the field to end up at the lane past Shotley Hall, I think the path may have been diverted as we had to walk beside a rape field and follow the waymarkers around it so the instructions became unclear at this point and we ended up taking a wrong path and had to walk back to Shotley on the road when we realised we had gone wrong.
