The town motto 'Skegness is so Bracing' can be experienced first-hand on this exploration of the coast north of the town. The route leaves the bustling town centre and quickly heads inland and then parallel to the seashore, following paths and lanes via Winthorpe to Ingoldmells. Here candy floss, fish and chips and rollercoasters jostle with farming and caravan sites. It has a certain charm, though, even on a brisk winter day. The return follows the promenade, doubling as flood defence to leave this for the last couple of miles and take to the sandy beach. There is a golf course among the dunes, which is not welcoming to walkers, but the sand, especially at low tide, is firm and gives good walking.
